Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale embarrasses Jamie O’Hara over ‘Banter FC’ claim
Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale is reportedly set to sign a new contract at the club – and he has already silenced the doubters of his summer move from Sheffield United in 2021.
The England international goalkeeper moved to the Emirates Stadium for an initial fee of £24 million following the Blades’ relegation from the Premier League.
The size of the fee was questioned by some pundits, especially as the goalkeeper had also suffered relegation in the previous season whilst at Bournemouth.
Ramsdale began life at the Emirates Stadium as the second-choice stopper behind Bernd Leno, but replaced the German after just two matches following Arsenal’s 5-0 defeat at Manchester City.
He has been first-choice since then, and taken his game to a new level in order to become one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
Perhaps his best performance this season came in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool when he made a string of crucial saves, including a last-ditch stop to deny Ibrahima Konate from giving the Reds the win.
And according to The Athletic, Ramsdale is now set to be handed a reward for his fine form with a new contract.
Ramsdale proves doubters wrong
Among the critics of the goalkeeper’s transfer to Arsenal was former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who mocked the club’s triple signing of Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and Ben White in the summer of 2021.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “They are Banter FC right now. Odegaard, Ramsdale, Ben White, [Albert Sambi] Lokonga and [Nuno] Tavares.
“They’ve spent £135 million on a B-team. Is their team any better than last season?”
While Tavares and Lokonga have struggled to impress at the Emirates, and are currently on loan at Marseille and Crystal Palace respectively, the same cannot be said of the other trio.
Odegaard, White and Ramsdale have all comprehensively proved O’Hara wrong, and could help Arsenal to still have a major say in this season’s Premier League title run-in.
