Callum Wilson outscoring Marcus Rashford in Premier League this season

This is the third week in a row we’ve highlighted the virtues of Callum Wilson (£4.7m) in some capacity.

And with good reason.

Newcastle’s No9 bagged a brace at Elland Road with both goals coming from the penalty spot.

As a result, he’s now notched 17 Premier League goals this season, an incredible effort given he’s started just 19 games, with a further nine appearances coming as a substitute.

The vast majority of Dream Team bosses are missing out on Wilson’s returns

Erling Haaland’s (£10.4m) record-breaking tally of 36 top-flight goals makes him an outlier and Harry Kane (£9.5m) deserves plenty of credit for reaching 27 in a disjointed Spurs team but there’s not much separating the following crop.

Ivan Toney (£6.1m) has scored 20 goals, Mohamed Salah’s (£9.1m) on 19 with Wilson next in the rankings, ahead of Marcus Rashford (£7.2m, 16 goals), Gabriel Martinelli (£4.9m, 15 goals) and Martin Odegaard (£4.8m, 15 goals).

It’s quite something that the Magpies’ top scorer has outscored Rashford in 2022/23 because Man United’s No10 was undoubtedly one of the most in-form players in world football for a prolonged spell earlier in the campaign.

Not only that, Rashford has played 2,752 minutes in the league this term compared to Wilson’s 1,708.

Can’t stop scoring

The latter is averaging a goal every 100 minutes in the top flight, a statistic that suggests he deserves a significantly bigger Dream Team ownership than his current share of 4.3%.

Add a Star Man award to his brace and Wilson took 17 points away from Elland Road to make him the top-performing forward of Game Week 34 so far.

Wilson has scored ten goals in his last nine outings and therefore has to be considered a viable option for the final Game Weeks of the season.

Newcastle face Brighton next up but after that they take on an extremely vulnerable Leicester and a horribly out-of-form Chelsea.
