Club now actively trying to sell ‘special’ 25-year-old, but Liverpool aren’t convinced

Liverpool aren’t convinced by Federico Chiesa’s fitness record, as Juventus put him up for sale.
Chiesa has had a difficult couple of years at Juve. A serious knee injury at the back end of 2021 halted the momentum he’d been building. And according to Calciomercato, the Old Lady are now unsure over his long-term suitability.
As a result, the 25-year-old will reportedly not be offered an extension on his current contract, which runs until 2025. With Juventus needing to raise money following non-qualification to next season’s Champions League, this means that Chiesa is on the market this summer.
With that in mind, the Italians are said to be willing to start the bidding at around £43m for the forward.
But it’s suggested that this may not be an easy target to reach. As well as Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Newcastle United and Manchester United are all mentioned in connection with Chiesa. However, each of that quartet are claimed to harbour ‘doubts’ over the Italy international’s physical condition.
As Juve also remain unconvinced by their No.7’s fitness, Chiesa’s future is said to be very much uncertain.
Chiesa looking for way out
There was a time – not all that long ago – that £43m to sign Chiesa would have been pretty much unthinkable. Rewind two years and the former Fiorentina man was lighting up Euro 2020.
Liverpool reportedly had a bid of something close to £85m rejected at that time. Juventus were convinced they’d got themselves a world-beater, it really looked that way.
But timing is often everything in football, and Chiesa’s has been terrible.
He was riding the crest of a wave when his knee gave in just a few months after the Euros in 2021. Since then, Max Allegri has returned to manage Juventus, and he and Chiesa just do not seem to fit.
Consequently, be it as a result of tactical incompatibility or downright poor form, the winger has gone completely off the boil.
Still, no matter the injuries, there is a real player still in there. Versatile, two-footed and explosive, there’s a reason Chiesa has been called ‘really special’ by the legendary Gigi Buffon [Gazzetta dello Sport]. He could still be a superb addition to Liverpool.
By the sounds of things, it may even be possible to haggle Juventus down on their asking-price. Doubts about his fitness will remain until Chiesa proves otherwise. But we’d be delighted to see him given the chance to blow those question marks away at Anfield.
