All of this Saudi chatter would make you yearn for the trailblazers who made heading off other money-making ventures cool after the turn of the century.
The idea that David Beckham has never even heard of skid row is a funny one to me, but it’s probably not far removed from the reality of his move to LA Galaxy to go on what was likely his second or third of double-figure midlife crises.
And for the longest time, it’s felt like the MLS would only be a retirement home for semi-decent, half-paced European footballers who were fed up of Paris St-Germain. But, with Lionel Messi being offered the mayorship of Miami as well as possession of multiple alligators from the Everglades, it seems that the American premier soccer competition is back in action, baby.
And you may as well get involved now before your mates start telling you how Inter Miami are playing a diamond in midfield in six months time.
Atlanta United v New York City FC – Under 2.5 Goals

About two in every nine games are won by the away team in the MLS. That’s down to a few different factors. The primary one is because the commute between the cities is more stressful; the flight from NYC to Atlanta isn’t very long, but it’s not quite the same as a luxury coach.
Only two sides have scored more home goals than Atlanta this year, and they are Western Conference leaders St. Louis, and good old Columbus Crew.
But I’d be more prone to drawing your attention to the away record held by Nick Cushing’s troops. They’ve shipped just eleven times in their last nine games on the road, which, given their lack of quality versus their opponents’, speaks to their suitability to road games. But they’ll almost certainly not be scoring themselves, as they’ve claimed just five goals on their travels all year. I wouldn’t stay up for this one but I would back Under 2.5 Goals.
FC Cincinnati v Toronto FC – Cincinnati to Win

What do you get when you have the best team in the MLS coming up against an out-of-country opponent who have yet to win a single game on their travels this year? A massacre? This is the glorious value leg to this acca. Don’t overthink it, it’s Cincinnati to Win.
Austin FC v FC Dallas – FC Dallas to Win

While I’ve stated the case above for the hassle of away games in this league, I do think it also affords you the opportunity to grab occasional value. While the gap between the two Texas sides could close to as little as four points with a home win, I cannot tell you that an in-state commute (albeit in a state bigger than France) really throws me off too much.
FCD already won this fixture back in May when they overcame Austin by a goal to nil. And while their form hasn’t held up exactly, they have faced a run of teams with impressive records in their own right.
Austin coming off the back of a trouncing by Sporting Kansas City is the extra bit of confidence I needed in siding with Jesus Ferreira and co. FC Dallas to Win is the bet here.
LAFC v Seattle Sounders – Both Teams to Score
TV: Apple TV
Seattle found their groove against Charlotte, with Raul Ruidiaz coming to life like so many expected him to. It helps ease the goal-scoring burden on Jordan Morris and possibly now Seattle can look to approach games in a slightly different manner.
That still likely won’t be enough to topple LAFC at home, who’d be my early pick for best team in the west – but you should at least see two teams with enough belief to throw caution to the wind knowing full well that they’re in no major danger of dropping out of the final series places anyway.
If you’re burning the midnight oil, I suspect you’ll be rewarded with Both Teams To Score.
