‘He would start’ – £200k-a-week Man UTD ace told to join Tottenham

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and he needs to leave in order to play regularly. The likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are ahead of him in the pecking order.

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has claimed that the 30-year-old England international could fit in at Tottenham.

He said on talksport: “He could do a job there (Spurs). They need defenders and he would start there in a back three.”

Maguire has faced a lot of criticism because of his error-prone performances at Manchester United and it seems quite surprising that the former Spurs striker wants the player to join Tottenham.

Spurs need to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer and they have been quite vulnerable at the back. Signing an inconsistent defender like Maguire could prove to be a blunder for them.

They need to bring in a reliable partner for Cristian Romero and they should aim for someone with a higher ceiling.

Meanwhile, Maguire earns around £200,000 a week at Manchester United and Tottenham might not be able to afford his wages either. It will be interesting to see where the 30-year-old England international ends up this summer.

The £80m ace was a quality defender during his time at Leicester City and he could be a useful player for most Premier League clubs if he can get back to that level once again. However, his confidence looks shot right now and he is unlikely to get better in his thirties.

Spurs should look to steer clear of him this summer.
