Inter Milan decide they will not sell ‘extraordinary’ defender to Newcastle

Newcastle United are looking to tap into the Italian market this summer, as Eddie Howe looks to enhance his squad ahead of competing in the Champions League.
Sandro Tonali is the frontrunner to arrive at St James’ Park right now, with the Magpies prepared to double his wages.
He would be a dream signing for Toon fans – and he is the second exciting Italian midfielder who has been linked with joining Howe’s side. The first was Nicolo Barella, but it looks like he is going to be too expensive.
The Inter Milan superstar would have been a ‘statement signing‘, but it currently looks like that honour will go to Tonali.
However, Barella is not the only Inter Milan player who Newcastle have been looking at. Left-back Federico Dimarco is also a target for the Magpies, with Howe keen to strengthen in that position.
But, just like Barella, it appears that this is a transfer pursuit that is going to end in disappointment for Toon fans.
Inter Milan do not plan to sell Dimarco amid Newcastle interest
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter have absolutely no intentions of selling the 25-year-old this summer.
That means that Newcastle are likely going to miss out on both Italians from Inter Milan that they have been looking at.
Interest in Dimarco comes after an ‘extraordinary‘ season, with the defender getting six goals and 10 assists in all competitions. That kind of attacking output is impressive, and sums up why the Magpies were looking at him.
But Howe will have to take his left-back search elsewhere – although that position does not appear to be the club’s priority at the moment. Perhaps it will be when a midfielder is brought in – ideally Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
When the time comes to move for a left-back, however, it looks like it will not be for Dimarco. Hopefully it will be Kieran Tierney, as he has previously been reported as the club’s top target for the left of defence, but his £30million price tag is currently an issue.
