‘It’s over’ – Fabrizio Romano ‘confirms’ Ten Hag will offload Man Utd academy graduate plus outcast as brutal cull begins
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed two of the first players Erik ten Hag will allow to leave Manchester United this summer as the manager continues to reshape the squad to his liking.
There were some major changes at Old Trafford last summer, with big names such as Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all leaving on free transfers. Their departures made room on the wage bill for Ten Hag to bring in some of his favourite players.
He reunited with Antony and Lisandro Martinez, whom he worked with during his time at Ajax. Man Utd also brought in Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and Christian Eriksen from Brentford.
Arguably the most surprising of their summer moves was the arrival of serial winner Casemiro from Real Madrid.
Ten Hag also greenlighted loan moves for Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer in the January transfer window, although they look set to be sent back to their parent clubs at the end of the season.
Casemiro, Eriksen, and Martinez have been particularly impressive since moving to Man Utd. And Ten Hag wants some more top-class players to join his squad later this year, including France striker Randal Kolo Muani and Napoli defender Kim Min-jae.

But before Man Utd can sign such stars, they must get rid of some more of the dead wood in their setup.
On Monday, the Manchester Evening News revealed five players who would be leaving the club this summer. They are Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, as well as young players Ethan Galbraith, Ondrej Mastny and Charlie Wellens.
Fabrizio Romano discusses double Man Utd exit
Romano has now provided his information on the situations of Jones and Tuanzebe.
On Jones, he revealed it has been ‘confirmed’ that the 31-year-old ‘will leave’ Man Utd at the end of the season. He will depart on a free transfer as his contract expires in June and Man Utd have no intention of renewing it.
The defender has been linked with a few Championship clubs previously, although his thoughts on such a move are yet to emerge. Having failed to play all season, Jones will simply want to pick up game time wherever he goes next.
Jones will be followed out of Manchester by fellow defender Tuanzebe. The 25-year-old is in the same boat as Jones as his contract expires this summer and will not be renewed.
Romano has written on Twitter that ‘it’s over’ between Tuanzebe and Man Utd. The Red Devils have decided against sanctioning another loan for him following temporary spells at Aston Villa, Napoli and Stoke.
Tuanzebe will be hoping to sign for another Prem side, although it is more likely he will join a team in the Championship or head to Serie A again.
While Jones and Tuanzebe will leave for free, Man Utd have been backed to sell some of their players for decent money. Scott McTominay is one such option, as the midfielder has picked up interest from Newcastle.
Reports have tipped Man Utd to sell club captain Harry Maguire as well. However, they may struggle to reach an agreement over a fee with one of his potential suitors.
After all, no club is going to want to pay anywhere near £80m for him, but Man Utd will not want to take a huge financial hit.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag has been told why he would be making a serious mistake if he signed a Paris Saint-Germain midfielder for Man Utd.
