Arsenal’s spirited display at St James’ Park against Newcastle United was epitomised by the immense performance of Italian midfielder Jorginho. Making his second start in a week, the January signing led the team in various key areas, including chances created, passes completed, total touches, and possession won.
Jorginho’s influential display was instrumental in Arsenal’s hard-fought victory, as he supplied the pass for captain Martin Odegaard’s match-winning goal. Speaking to Arsenal Media after the game, the midfielder expressed pride in the team’s ability to adapt to the physical battle.
“It’s a massive win,” Jorginho said. “We knew it was a tough game coming here and winning the way we did, but sometimes you know you have to fight a lot to get the three points. I’m just so proud of the team, the way we fought until the end, the way we pushed.”
The Italian also emphasised the importance of recognising when beautiful football isn’t enough, and adapting to the situation at hand. He praised the team for their ability to do what was necessary to secure the victory, calling it “well deserved.”
Jorginho was also full of praise for teammate Martin Odegaard, who continued his excellent run of form with his 15th goal of the season. “He’s just a really clever player and makes so many things easier on the pitch for his teammates. Such a good character as well, humble, works a lot for the team,” he said, adding that the entire group shares these qualities.
After consecutive starts, Jorginho is enjoying his football but remains focused on the challenges ahead.
He highlighted the importance of contributing to the team, whether on the pitch or from the bench, and emphasised the need for everyone to help their teammates secure points.
