Lionel Messi pens emotional tribute to Sergio Busquets but they could soon be reunited

Lionel Messi has paid tribute to former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets – who confirmed he will leave the club this summer.
The pair played 567 times together at the Nou Camp before Messi’s shock move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.

A trophy-laden period saw the duo enjoy three Champions League successes, eight La Liga titles and seven Copa del Rey triumphs.
Messi wrote on Instagram: “On the pitch always with 5 but in reality as a player and as a person you are a 10, Busi.
“I wish you the best in your new stage and always, both you and your family.
“Thank you for on and off the pitch , there were so many moments we spent together, many good and some also complicated… They will stay forever!
“Big hug, @5sergiob.”
Messi is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer with his contract unlikely to be renewed.

There are suggestions that the Argentine could be set for a money-spinning switch to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal where he could be reunited with Busquets next season.
A move to the Middle East could see Messi earn over £500 million-a-year but according to his father Jorge, nothing has been finalised with any club as yet.
“There is absolutely nothing with any club for next year. The decision will never be made before Lionel finishes the league with PSG,” Jorge wrote on social media.
“Once the season is over it will be time to analyse and see what is there, and then make a decision. There are always rumours and many use the name of Lionel to gain notoriety but the truth is only one and we can assure that there is nothing with anyone. Neither verbal, nor signed, nor agreed, and there will not be until the end of the season.”

A move to the Saudi Pro League would reignite his long-standing rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo who signed for Al-Nassr in January.
It would represent a huge coup for Saudi Arabian football which has already seen a rise in popularity around the world since Ronaldo’s arrival.
