Liverpool to soon miss out on 26-year-old target to Saudi Arabian club

Liverpool are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves to Saudi Arabia side Al Hilal.
According to the Athletic, the 26-year-old is set to become the latest superstar player to make the move to the Middle East in a deal worth £46m, with Neves set to snub the likes of Liverpool and even FC Barcelona for a move to Al Hilal.
Saudi Arabia has been on a huge spending spree this summer recruiting the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and now Neves, with the country’s Private Investment Fund expected to channel billions into sport in the weeks to come.
Many are surprised with Neves’ decision to head to Saudi Arabia given how young the midfielder is compared to the likes of Benzema and Kante, and for Liverpool, missing out on the 26-year-old to Al Hilal will feel like a hammer blow for the Anfield giants.
Indeed, Neves has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for the last five years, and the Portuguese international making the move to Saudi Arabia will catch a lot of people by surprise when playing for Liverpool was a viable option for the Wolves star.
Neves could soon regret Saudi Arabia move with Liverpool interest on the table
Saudi Arabia’s push on football this summer is akin to what we have seen from other countries in recent years such as the USA and China, yet the figures involved and the names being attracted indicate that this won’t just be some fad that’s gone before it even starts. Yet Neves could still regret the move.
As we know, the midfielder is heading into the prime of his career and was wanted by Liverpool for well over a year. And Neves choosing the money of Al Hilal rather than the glory and success of Anfield could come back to bite the 26-year-old, who could regret his decision in the months to come.
