Long term £17m transfer target has Everton offer on table but prefers a move elsewhere
Everton need to address full back issues in summer window too by Matt Townsend
Everton are long term admirers of Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Toffees have been tracking the Swedish striker since the winter transfer window as Sean Dyche looks for reinforcements in the attack.
The Toffees were strongly linked with Gyokeres in January but Coventry City were too stubborn to let the 24 year old leave in the middle of the season, especially when they had a realistic chance of securing Premier League promotion. With Coventry failing to secure promotion, they have little chance to keep Gyokeres.
The Championship side are open to selling the Swede this summer for the right price and there are clubs that are already lining up moves for the 24 year old. Apart from Everton, the Portuguese club Sporting CP are also interested in Gyokeres. In fact, Sporting have also submitted a bid of €12 million plus €3 million in add-ons. Coventry are holding out on their €20 million valuation and are refusing to budge from their asking price.
Viktor Gyokeres has Everton offer on table but prefers to join Sporting
Everton continue to remain in the chase for the 24 year old. According to Portuguese outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness), Gyokeres has an offer from Everton on the table but currently he prefers a move to Portugal. If EFC want to sign Gyokeres, they will need to push harder as Lions seem to have an upper hand on the striker. Sporting have made Gyokeres their top priority this summer and are completely focused on getting the deal done.
The 24 year old has held conversations with Sporting manager Ruben Amorim and is intrigued by the idea of joining the Portuguese outfit. The player’s desire is tilting towards Sporting, which is bad news for Everton. The Lions are also well placed to satiate Gyokeres’ financial demands which make them the favourite to land the striker.
Sporting CP now want to quickly close the signing as they are aware that Everton and Brighton are also keen and have made an offer to the Sweden international. As things stand, Coventry remain firm on their €20 million asking price but Sporting are confident that they can bring down the price.
It’s now or never for Everton. The Toffees will not have many chances to turn Gyokeres’ desire towards Goodison Park. EFC need to move quickly because as of now he seems to be headed to Portugal.
Will EFC miss out on Viktor Gyokeres?
