Man City star in ‘advanced talks’ with another league champion after turning back on Guardiola

Man City star in ‘advanced talks’ with another league champion after turning back on Guardiola

Kyle Walker has become ‘keen’ on a transfer to Bayern Munich from Manchester City, according to the latest reports in Germany.

Walker is about to enter the final year of his contract at Man City, where he therefore faces an uncertain future. After seven years with the club, it might be time for him to take on a new challenge if the treble winners decide to sell him.

Recently, Walker was named as a concrete target for his hometown club Sheffield United, where he began his career and has been open to returning.

There have also been claims of interest from Saudi Arabia, where several top talents from European football are being targeted.

But another contender for Walker’s signature to have emerged recently has been Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions have identified the England international as a potential successor to Benjamin Pavard at right-back.

The situation has been developing over the weekend. Now, Sky Sports Germany expert Florian Plettenberg has revealed ‘advanced talks’ are ongoing about a Bayern move for Walker.

While not directly specifying whether those talks are between Bayern and City or just with the player himself, Plettenberg did conclude that ‘all parties’ are ‘optimistic’ that a deal can be finalised.

Walker is said to be ‘keen’ on signing for Bayern, who could become the first club abroad that he has represented in his career.

Because of the amount of time remaining on his contract, the transfer would be a permanent one, though it is not yet clear how much City stand to gain financially from it given his age.

Tuchel convinces Walker about Man City exit

The 33-year-old has supposedly been persuaded by Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel, who has the inside track on Walker after coming up against him in the Premier League during his days on the Chelsea touchline.

Tuchel is a good communicator in English, which should help Walker’s potential transition into German football.

Although Walker has been one of Pep Guardiola’s most used players at Man City, it seems he is ready to turn his back on his current manager so he can enjoy a new challenge in the twilight of his career.

Champions League football will be on offer for Walker if he joins Bayern. Guardiola brought the defender on as a substitute when City won this season’s final against Inter.

Walker is just one of several players who could make winning the treble the end of their journey at Man City. Other players linked with an exit this summer include Ilkay Gundogan, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva.
