Man City transfers: Signing of USMNT star accelerates after triple European competition for Fulham ace

Manchester City continue to be linked with a move for Fulham and USMNT defender Antonee Robinson, with the latest reports revealing their three competitors for his signature.

Robinson has just completed his third season with Fulham, in which he played 38 times in all competitions. Along the way, he surpassed the landmark of 100 appearances in his spell with the club.

However, there is only one year remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage. Therefore, he might be available for a transfer this summer if Fulham cannot extend his contract.

After finishing in the top half of the Premier League, Fulham intend to keep Robinson if they can. But his situation has supposedly caught the interest of a number of other clubs.

Man City began to be linked with Robinson in July 2021. Almost two years later, the speculation is still lingering.

According to the latest from Foot Mercato, Robinson has become a target for Marseille. However, Man City are named as one of the main rival suitors who should make it difficult for the Ligue 1 side.

The Premier League champions allowed Oleksandr Zinchenko to leave last summer and Joao Cancelo in January. Pep Guardiola has used a fluid formation to guide his side to the treble, but might need a more orthodox option at left-back to usurp Sergio Gomez in the pecking order.

With that in mind, Robinson seems to be on their radar. The 25-year-old has spent two of his three seasons with Fulham as a Premier League player, so could be ready for the next step.

Never before has Robinson been able to play in a UEFA competition, so joining the reigning holders of the Champions League would be quite the step up.

AC Milan revive Robinson interest

Other than City and Marseille, the report mentions Inter and AC Milan as other admirers of Robinson. Indeed, he was on the verge of joining the latter as far back as January 2020 after they agreed to buy him from Wigan Athletic, but a problem with his medical prevented the transfer from materialising.

AC Milan currently have Theo Hernandez as their main left-back, with Fode Ballo-Toure acting as his deputy. Hernandez has already been linked with some Premier League clubs this summer.

Inter, for their part, were beaten by City in the Champions League final. Their starting left-back, Federico Dimarco, is also attracting interest, while his deputy, Dalbert, is about to become a free agent.

As for Marseille, Nuno Tavares has been on loan at the club from Arsenal this season. Furthermore, Sead Kolasinac is out of contract this summer, so they might need two new left-backs.

Reports elsewhere have named Junior Firpo of Leeds United as someone they are considering. Robinson is also under consideration, so it seems, but City and the two clubs might be too powerful for Marcelino’s side.
