Man Utd have €100m for Ten Hag striker target after Barcelona said ‘no’ to Red Devils approach
Manchester United reportedly have €100m set aside to spend on Rasmus Hojlund having been left disappointed in their bid to sign a top target from Barcelona.
Reports last week claimed Atalanta striker Hojlund is a top target for United after an impressive debut season which saw the 20-year-old grab nine goals and two assists in Serie A.
The Red Devils were hoping to sign Hojlund for around £50m but it’s recently been claimed Atalanta actually value him at £86m (€100m).
GiveMeSport claimed ‘Hojlund is high on the list of attacking options the Dutchman is chasing’ this summer.
United have handed Atalanta a ‘deal-maker in negotiations’ as Ten Hag is ‘willing to sanction a year-long loan move for winger Amad Diallo to return’ to the Italian side as part of a potential ‘swap’ deal.
The winger left Atalanta at the start of 2021, joining Man Utd in a deal worth around £19m, and is coming off a stellar loan spell at Championship side Sunderland.
But Nacional claim United have the €100m required to complete the deal for Hojlund without using Diallo as a sweetener.
The Spanish outlet reports that the Red Devils have the funds necessary as a result of ‘Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s “no” to United interest in signing Frenkie de Jong.
United made a number of bids for De Jong last summer and interest in the Dutch midfielder remained this summer, but new approaches were rebuffed by Barcelona.
The report adds: ‘As United do not invest this money in the Dutch midfielder, he will use it to reinforce his attack’, with Hojlund supposedly the chosen one to lead the line next season.
Hojlund recently denied claims that he has had a “video call” with Ten Hag but he admits his “goal is to reach the top shelf”.
“There has been no video call,” Hojlund told Danish outlet Berlingske. “I can’t say anything about that.
“It’s a huge club, so I must have done something right if it says they want me. My goal is to reach the top shelf, and you can say that Manchester United is. So it will be huge.”
