More Apps Than Arthur: Twitter Reacts to LFC Announcing 2024 Taylor Swift Gig at Anfield

Liverpool recently left fans on the edge of their seats with a Twitter announcement. But alas, it wasn’t a juicy transfer reveal—instead, it was something even more electrifying! Brace yourselves, folks, because the sensational Taylor Swift is taking her show to England in 2024.

The Merseyside club pulled off a real coup, securing her performances at the newly renovated Anfield Stadium. With an expanded capacity of 61,000, the Reds are ready to kick off the 2023/24 Premier League season with a bang

The Reds have only announced the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and handed him the no.10 kit as well. With that being said, it almost appears that the club are just proud to be able to bag Taylor Swift concerts that will take place on June 14 and June 15 at Anfield.

This is a tradition that many clubs have used for many decades. The Wembley Stadium in London is often host to major concerts, while the likes of Old Trafford, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Emirates Stadium have all hosted non-football events – mostly during the off-season.

How Twitter Users Reacted to the Huge Announcement

The announcement that Swift will be performing LIVE at Anfield on back-to-back days has brought gutting comparisons to midfielder Arthur Melo, who spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Anfield.

Unfortunately for the Juventus man, however, he struggled with injury problems all through the campaign and only ended up making a single appearance – that too as a substitute in a Champions League game. There are claims being made that Taylor will be making more appearances at Anfield next year than Arthur managed in his loan spell.

Some Liverpool supporters have even started dreaming that the turnout at Anfield for the concerts will help earn enough money for the Merseyside club to make a cheeky ploy to sign Kylian Mbappe next summer. The Frenchman is likely to become a free agent in 2024 unless he leaves PSG this year after telling them he doesn’t intend on extending his current contract.

In terms of how much revenue they can get from the Swift concerts, it’s speculated that the Reds can earn millions from them. While the popstar earns a large percentage of the revenue from ticket sales, merchandise sales and more – the hosting venues often get a cut too and that can fetch some decent money for Liverpool.

Taylor’s concerts aren’t exactly cheap either – as her 2023 ERA concerts have been selling tickets at a minimum price of $289 going up to as much as $1778. So it’s clear that the jam-packed, 61,000-strong Anfield can rack in millions by hosting Swift for multiple concerts.

Guessing which players might attend

In her recent concerts, Taylor Swift has not only attracted her supporters – but major celebrities from all over the world. In her UK concerts at Anfield, there is also expected to be a number of prominent personalities to attend at least one of them – if not both.

That should include Liverpool players, who will probably get complimentary tickets to enjoy the concerts if they want to with their loved ones. Liverpool will give their season ticket holders and official members some discounted prices and the ability to pre-register for tickets too.

A few years ago, Liverpool forward Mo Salah admitted to liking Swift’s music and that his daughter loves the pop star. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if the King of Anfield turns up to the concerts with his family.

Salah isn’t the only Liverpool legend to like Swift too. Back in 2015, Steven Gerrard revealed in a Q&A that he is a fan of the iconic popstar and that he loves listening to her music as well. The Englishman could also be back in Anfield for these concerts in 2024 too.

The Taylor Swift concerts at Anfield in 2024 should end up being a major hit, giving the Merseyside faithful to watch the popstar perform live at the new and improved Anfield Stadium – as well as giving a surge in popularity and revenue for Liverpool FC.
