Chelsea recently struck a deal for former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to take the reins this summer but agent Volker Struth claims the Argentine is the club’s plan B.

Struth says Chelsea had made Nagelsmann their first-choice target to replace Graham Potter despite the west London club denying that was the case.

And the agent was quick to praise Nagelsmann’s decision to pull out of negotiations with the Blues.

“I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call [following his sacking from Bayern Munich in March]. There were some phone conversations,” Struth told Bild podcast Phrasenmaher.

“It was the right decision not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment. And their transfer policy, spending a few hundred million euros, has raised expectations that need to be met. There were also some other issues.

“He was their No.1 [choice], that was our information. I believe it would have happened if he had wanted it.”
