Nagelsmann’s agent criticises Chelsea and reveals reason German snubbed Blues
Julian Nagelsmann’s agent has criticised Chelsea and revealed why the German turned down the vacant managerial post.
The former Bayern Munich boss pulled out of the running for the Chelsea job last month, following a series of talks.
Chelsea recently struck a deal for former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to take the reins this summer but agent Volker Struth claims the Argentine is the club’s plan B.
Struth says Chelsea had made Nagelsmann their first-choice target to replace Graham Potter despite the west London club denying that was the case.
And the agent was quick to praise Nagelsmann’s decision to pull out of negotiations with the Blues.
“I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call [following his sacking from Bayern Munich in March]. There were some phone conversations,” Struth told Bild podcast Phrasenmaher.
“It was the right decision not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment. And their transfer policy, spending a few hundred million euros, has raised expectations that need to be met. There were also some other issues.
“He was their No.1 [choice], that was our information. I believe it would have happened if he had wanted it.”

Pochettino is set to seal his move to Chelsea this week on a three-year deal after talks with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
A huge summer awaits the 51-year-old, who will oversee a huge shake-up in the squad that is likely to see a number of big names shipped out.
Pochettino is likely to add to his squad in the upcoming transfer window with a striker and a new goalkeeper likely to be prioritised.
