Newcastle ready to bid £44m but star ‘better than Bellingham’ wants Liverpool

Ryan Gravenberch is keen on a move to Liverpool but new reports are suggesting that Premier League rivals Newcastle United are ‘ready to shell out’ £44 million for the Bayern Munich benchwarmer.

A quick glance at the statistics will tell you that, since arriving from Ajax last summer, Gravenberch has featured 21 times in the Bundesliga. A respectable tally for a man in his first season in one of Europe’s major leagues.

Delve a little deeper, however, and you’ll discover that 19 of those 21 appearances have come from the bench. No wonder the Dutch international is getting itchy feet, then; Sky Sports reporting that he is intrigued by leaving the Bayern bench behind for regular game time at Anfield.

Liverpool are not the only club willing to offer the 20-year-old a route out of Bayern, however.

Tuttomercatoweb believe that Newcastle, as well as Liverpool, are ready and willing to stump up £44 million for a player who, at one point or another, has been labelled ‘better’ than both Paul Pogba and Jude Bellingham.

“What I think is the big difference (between the two players); Bellingham is at a club a step lower and always plays,” Dutch legend Rafael Van der Vaart tells Ziggo Sport.

“I think Gravenberch is better than him, in every way. Especially physically.”

Is Ryan Gravenberch joining Liverpool or Newcastle United?

Alongside the masterful Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock, Joelinton and Sean Longstaff have played the best football of their careers under Eddie Howe at St James’ Park. What the trio offer in energy and endeavour, however, they arguably lack in genuine technical ability. Gravenberch, one of Europe’s most naturally-talented young playmakers, would give this hard-running, sweat-shedding Newcastle side a more cerebral option.

One which could come in very handy if opposition sides begin to find a way to combat Howe’s all-action approach.

Whether bids of £44 million are enough for Bayern to sell, however, time will tell. TMW, backing up claims from Germany, suggest that Bayern would prefer to keep Gravenberch. They view the youngster as a key part of their future. Both Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are edging closer to 30, after all.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have turned to Gravenberch after backing out of the race to sign another Bundesliga enforcer; Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham, according to The Guardian, is nearing a potential club-record move to Real Madrid.
