Premier League refuse Chelsea sponsorship deal with Paramount Plus

Premier League giants Chelsea have seen hopes of a sponsorship agreement with Paramount Plus dashed on Sunday.
That is according to reliable outlet The Athletic, who have provided a fresh insight into the ongoing efforts of the powers that be at Stamford Bridge to secure a new jersey sponsor for the club.
With Chelsea’s current terms with long-time partner Three set to come to an end this summer, the Blues had sought out an agreement with American streaming service Paramount.
However, as per The Athletic’s Liam Twomey:
‘Chelsea had hoped to complete a sponsorship deal with Paramount Plus, but this was judged to not be permitted under the Deed of License – the contract between clubs and the Premier League, which covers matters including broadcasting and commercial deals.’
The Londoners, as a result, have been forced to turn back towards Stake.com.
Recent media reports had pointed towards gambling company Stake inching towards a one-year contract agreement with Chelsea.
An ensuing backlash over the ethical ramifications of teaming with a gambling firm, however, had seemingly seen Todd Boehly and co. take a step back from negotiations.
But today’s news of the Premier League’s decision to reject any potential partnership with Paramount has pulled Stake back into the frame, with discussions now in full swing once more.
This comes despite the Premier League’s clubs, back in April, voting in favour of a landmark ban on gambling-based shirt sponsors, set to come into effect in 2026.
Chelsea have been refused permission to sign a shirt sponsorship deal with Paramount Plus by the Premier League due to concerns it could cause problems with the league’s broadcast partners.
