Pulisic named best player as USA retain CONCACAF title

Christian Pulisic captained USA to another CONCACAF Nations League triumph and was voted the tournament’s Best Player after his nation beat neighbours Canada 2-0 in the final.

It means the US have now won both editions of the Nations League with the Chelsea man skippering them to glory and hoisting the trophy aloft. Pulisic scored the winner in the 3-2 victory over Mexico in 2021.

On Sunday evening local time in Las Vegas, Pulisic was deployed on the left flank. He was involved in an early moment of promise when Timothy Weah nearly picked him out, but from the resulting corner defender Chris Richards headed in anyway.

Shortly after the half-hour, USA doubled their lead through Folarin Balogun’s maiden international goal, an instinctive first-time finish on the turn.

USA keeper Matt Turner had to make a couple of sharp saves, including to deny Alphonso Davies, but for the most part they kept Canada at arm’s length, even going closest to adding a third through first Richards and then Balogun.

With nine of USA’s starting XI aged 25 and younger, including 24-year-old Pulisic, they are in great shape heading into the next World Cup on home soil, and have now won each of the past three CONCACAF titles on offer.

Congratulations Christian!
