Ronaldo receives surprise message from Maguire after landmark achievement

Cristiano Ronaldo received a surprise message from Harry Maguire after winning his 200th cap for Portugal.
The 38-year-old was the star of the show as Portugal saw off Iceland in their latest Euro 2024 qualifier, a match that saw Ronaldo score the winner in the 89th minute.

Having broken Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa’s 196-cap record back in March, smashing the 200 barrier is just the latest in a long line of records broken by the Al Nassr forward.
Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia may have been controversial following his move away from Manchester United, but that didn’t stop Red Devils’ captain Harry Maguire from reaching out after his former teammate’s landmark.
Writing on Instagram Ronaldo marked the occasion by saying: “200 games with the same commitment, dedication, and responsibility, just like the first time I played with this jersey.
“I am here, continuing to score, pursuing my dream and giving my all for the team and for our country.”

Replying to that post, Ronaldo’s old Man United teammate Maguire said: “Some achievement,” with a clapping hands and fire emoji.
This is despite claims that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner demanded he replace the England defender as captain following Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s sacking.
As well as plaudits from his former teammates, Ronaldo was clearly pleased with what he described as a ‘special achievement’.
Speaking after the match, Ronaldo said: “For me, it’s an unbelievable achievement, it’s amazing.

“And, of course, to score the winning goal, it’s even more special.
“We didn’t play so well but sometimes football is like that but we scored a goal and, in my opinion, we deserved it.
“I’m so happy because of 200 caps, but this is even more special.”
