Saudis set to try tempt Mo Salah after securing Benzema and Kante deals

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is the latest big name set to be subject of an approach from The Saudi Pro League.

Saudi Arabia are investing huge sums into the domestic division with the nation’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) having taken ownership of four clubs – Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal – and granted funds to bring in overseas talent.

Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante are among the high-profile names to have signed this summer with the duo having agreed deals with Al-Ittihad, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr in January.

Salah is now being targeted for a move to the Middle East, with Hafez Al-Medlej – who has held positions with both the Asian Football Confederation and Saudi Pro League – claiming the league should target players at their peak. He believes Salah would be an ideal signing given his popularity in the Arab world.

“We are only living the beginning,” Al-Medlej told Koura, via AS. “All transferable footballers will from now on be targeted by Saudi clubs.

“We do not hire players who are already finished. Al Hilal is going to sign Ruben Neves, who is 26 years old and who Barcelona wanted. And Benzema has already arrived at Al Ittihad after being crowned the Ballon d’Or with Real Madrid, who is faced with the dilemma of replacing him.

“Let’s hope that Bernardo Silva, from Manchester City, arrives. We must also start working on the signing of Mohamed Salah since he is overwhelmingly popular in the Arab world and in Europe. I think Salah still has records to break with Liverpool, so I hope that if he doesn’t come now he will in the future.”
