Ten Hag ‘in contact’ with ‘important target’ Manchester United could sign on free transfer

Manchester United are reported to be back in for France and Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Whether he realises it or not, Adrien Rabiot has made a big contribution to Manchester United’s season.
Negotiations with the Frenchman broke down last summer over wage demands and his desire for Champions League football, Fabrizio Romano reported.
United signed Casemiro instead, a far superior player. But Rabiot is no slouch, and this summer he is available on a free transfer.

Manchester United ‘back in for Adrien Rabiot’
Manchester United are reportedly considering a new move for Adrien Rabiot, according to French newspaper L’Equipe.
The report claims manager Erik ten Hag is ‘in contact’ with Rabiot and the 28-year-old is viewed as an ‘important target’.
Would Rabiot be a signing which immediately upgrades United’s starting XI? Probably not. But he would improve the squad depth.
Rabiot would be an upgrade on both Scott McTominay and Fred, while it would negate the need to pay to sign Marcel Sabitzer permanently.
He has scored 11 goals in all competitions for Juventus this season and provided four assists.
As a squad player, Rabiot could be a useful signing, which would allow the Red Devils to focus spending in other areas.
Ten Hag hint over signings
The report claims Ten Hag has spoken with Rabiot and this may tie in with comments the manager made last Friday about the desire of players to sign for the club.
He was quoted by the club website: “There were a lot of reservations when I spoke last year with players, [but] now many players see the project that is going on.
“The dynamic and the ambition in this project, and especially the quality. They are really keen to come.”
Rabiot can see the direction United are moving in, and with the Red Devils on course to qualify for Champions League football, and Juventus expected to miss out.
