‘Very good opportunity’: ‘Mini Mourinho’ urged to join Tottenham, Guardiola raved about him

Former German international Rene Adler has advised Julian Nagelsmann to take the Tottenham Hotspur manager job.

A report claimed on Sunday that the ex-Bayern Munich boss held fresh talks with Spurs over filling the vacancy in N17.

While there still remain question marks over whether Julian Nagelsmann will really accept the Tottenham Hotspur manager job, Rene Adler has told him to go through with it.

A claim was made on Saturday that perhaps the German tactician, branded as ‘Mini Mourinho’ via talkSPORT may snub the job if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola himself lauded the 35-year-old’s style of play via the official Bundesliga website, which goes to show how highly respected he is within the game.

As Julian Nagelsmann remains out of work currently, Rene Adler has told him that the Tottenham manager job would suit him to a tee.

“A very good opportunity. They’re a top club, top infrastructure with a stadium and training ground. As well as financial opportunities for a rebuild, even without a premier class. In the end, you had defensively thinking coaches, sometimes offering destructive football.”

“That could be concealed as long as the results were right, nobody really enjoyed it. But if Nagelsmann came along now, someone who plays offensively and wants possession of the ball, that would be the case to spark a spirit of optimism”, he told Spox.

HITC View: Understandable why Nagelsmann would be reluctant

While it is all well and good the way Rene Adler has pitched the Tottenham manager job, the decision is not as black and white for Julian Nagelsmann and understandably so.

For starters, it was reported nine days ago that Nagelsmann was only willing to join Spurs if they had appointed a sporting director.

With Fabio Paratici’s resignation, Harry Kane’s future still uncertain, the squad needing freshening and a frugal ownership, Tottenham simply are not as attractive a proposition in practice as they are in theory.

Considering the reactionary nature of football discourse even within the game, Nagelsmann may be considered a false image if he fails at the club, despite several factors being stacked against him currently.
